Parish Roadworks Update

Current available information on current and future roadworks affecting Blackheath, Shamley Green and Wonersh

Published: 12 March 2026

Wonersh Pepperpot

We hear and share residents’ frustrations with the recent barrage of roadworks and road closures which have severely impacted our local roads and bus networks.  Waverley Borough Councillor Jane Austin and Surrey County Councillor Kevin Deanus have been working hard behind the scenes to try to resolve the issues, which in general are caused by emergency utility works.

We have received advance notice of the following rough dates for road permits for Surrey County Council contractors to install reduced speed limits as part of their Rural Speed Limit Project.

  • 24 March to 01 April: Stroud Common area
  • 09 April to 22 April: Shamley Green area
  • 23 April to 06 May: Wonersh area

A full list of affected roads in our Parish can be found attached here.  Many roads will require temporary traffic management, ranging from ‘some carriageway encroachment, to lane closures and possibly full road closures for as-short-a-time-as-needed to install / change signs and posts etc. All works and temporary traffic management is planned to be within daylight hours, and therefore without overnight road closures.  We will update this page when we receive further information.

We have also been made aware of the following roadworks and road closures which will impact on the Parish:

Sample Oak Lane, Chilworth will be closed from 14 March For 2 days 8am – 5pm

Woodhill Lane, Shamley Green will be closed from 26 March for 2 weeks, 8am – 5pm weekdays only.  The closure will be from both junctions with The Green to the junction with Madgehole Lane.

A281 Horsham Road, Bramley to Shalford will have traffic lights from Tuesday 7 April for approximately 32 weeks whilst Southern Gas Network carry out upgrades.  This is expected to lead to an increase in traffic using the B2128 through Shamley Green and Wonersh as an alternative route from Cranleigh to Shalford.

Chinthurst Lane, between Bramley and Shalford will be closed from Monday 23 March for approximately 10 weeks.
